Types of revenue received or collected.

This search identifies the types of revenue received or collected by major revenue category such as sales taxes or income tax.

The drill down path in this search provides the following information:

• The detail revenue source codes within the major revenue category.
• The departments who received or collected the revenue.
• The agency within the department who received or collected the revenue. The number of agencies within a department varies based on state statues or on how the department chooses to organize its activities.
• The fund (or funds) the agency used to record its revenue.  Funds are created in state statue by the Legislature or are required by general accepted accounting principles.  The number of funds in which an agency operates varies because of legislation or the type of activities it engages in.

Why doesn't the Revenue search function show who provided the revenue to the state?

The state's largest single revenue source is income tax revenue.  All information regarding income tax receipts and refunds is protected by state law and cannot be disclosed.  For income tax receipts and other revenues of the state, the information regarding who paid the state is not recorded on the accounting system. For fees, fines, and other revenue sources, the provider information is normally retained by the state agency or institution and may be available under an open records request.
